COVID19 has dramatically changed the way we do a lot of things. There have been a lot of discussions about the negative consequences of the quarantine due to covid19. Let us look at the untended positive outcomes of the pandemic. The environment: According to some studies we are breathing in the most fresh, and unpolluted air in decades. Some cities are seeing clear skies for the first time in long time. This is because of reduced carbon dioxide emissions from our commutes and most factories and companies being closed due to the pandemic. From in office to online/zoom: the pandemic has forced everyone to work from home and use more technology such as zoom. Some tech companies have permanently closed their brick and mortar offices and started working virtually. Studies are also showing we are printing a lot less and instead are emailing our documents. Hence, without a choice more people are using more technologies as a result of the pandemic. Schools: From elementary to graduate level schools are experimenting with more virtual teaching than ever before. That could allow students and teachers to achieve academic excellence from the comfort of their homes. More time with family, kids and the neighbors: it’s no news that due to the pandemic most families are seeing and talking to each other more often than before. Due to the pandemic we are cooking and dining in more than before and creating a more connected families and neighborhoods. Fashion and beauty are taking a new definition. Most people are using less makeup and shaving less since the pandemic, allowing people to do as they please.
Lifetime decisions during pandemic: It is said that Isaac Newtown did most of his prolific work during the plague. Shakespeare wrote his best known work during the Bubonic plague also. In time we will see if there were new inventions/companies that were created during the pandemic. Those are some unintended positive outcomes of covid19 I found; can you add one of your own?
